Alena Leonova: ‘I would not dare to come up to Ovechkin if I saw him. Who knows in what state of mind can one be after such a harsh defeat’
Last set of medals have been distributed in the Olympic figure skating competitions. Alena Leonova and Ksenia Makarova of Russia obtained quite decent results, placing 9th and 10th respectively. Alena Leonova told the All Sport news agency’s special reporter about her performace.

‘I have finally done the 3+3 combination!’ exclaimed Alena Leova. ‘I’m so happy about it! I’d been trying to perform it all season long at all the events, but to no effect. Today I summoned up all my strength and did it!’

Q: Maybe every event should be labeled an Olympic one, in order for you to do everything right?
A: No, I just shouldn’t get nervous. I should approach every jump with great confidence and be very precise in every movement.

Q: Weren’t you worrying today before the free skating?
A: In fact, I’d already been anxious to skate early in the morning. At 12 o’clock I told my mummy via Skype that I just couldn’t wait! She tried to calm me down. Frankly speaking, I’m worried about her. On the day I skated my short program she woke up at 5 o’clock and couldn’t sleep afterwards. She must be receiving congratulations at the moment.

Q: You could have burned yourself out!
A: I had no time for that, as I performed first in my warm-up. And after all, I’d pulled out a lucky number, 13.

Q: You did all the difficult elements and combinations, but there still were some minor slip-ups.
A: Maybe I was owerwhelmed with emotions. I so much wanted to do everything well! That’s why almost all my landings weren’t perfect, indeed. But my coach Alla Piatova said that my best jump was the 3+3, and I’m happy about it.

Q: Are you satisfied with your 9th place?
A: My coach told me today: ‘The main thing is to skate clean, so that you can please the audience’. Of course, I’m glad that I’ve remained in the top ten. It would have been great to climb a bit higher, though.

Q: After your previous interview everybody wants to know if you succeeded in taking Ovechkin’s autograph?
A: No, I haven’t seen him since. And to tell the truth, I would not dare to come up to him.

Q: Is it because he is unshaven and some of his teeth are missing?
A: No, it’s not the case! (laughs). It’s just because... who knows in what state of mind can one be after such a harsh defeat? But I’ve had a foto taken with Bykov and took Tretiak’s autograph. It’s great, too!
