World Junior champion, silver medalist of Russian Championships Alena Leonova is, as always, full of optimism and promises to keep the bar high in the new season. In the interview given to the FSkate.ru website’s correspondent Svetlana Antsyreva Alena talks about last season, test skates and her preparation for the upcoming events.
Russia’s having an unprecedentedly hot summer. While winter and its equally hot ice battles are still far ahead, we had a talk with Alena Leonova, a bright and clever girl, St. Petersburg’s and Russia’s rising figure skating star. The conversation took place within the hospitable walls of The Sport Psychology Agency. Alena has already worked with the Agency’s best specialists, and we couldn’t help but inquire why. Of course, we went the extra mile and asked a lot of other questions.
Russian skater Alena Leonova, who placed 14th at the World Championships in Torino, named the reasons for her poor performance and summed up the results of the season.
Alena Leonova’s poor performance in the short program at Worlds was down to her bad physical shape after an illness, coach Alla Piatova said in her interview to the RIA Novosti news agency
Last set of medals have been distributed in the Olympic figure skating
competitions. Alena Leonova and Ksenia Makarova of Russia obtained
quite decent results, placing 9th and 10th respectively. Alena Leonova
told the All Sport news agency’s special reporter about her performace.

Alena Leonova and her coach Alla Piatova told championat.ru about the upcoming Olympic Games, recent Europeans, Alena’s programs and costumes and many other things.
It isn’t an easy job to find Alena Leonova in Moscow, for she visits Russia’s capital quite rarely in the first place, and when she does, or rather when she has to, she is, of course, very busy. I managed to catch her on the frosty Tuesday morning, when she was about to enter an underground station after receiving her Olympic outfit. I offered her and her coach Alla Piatova a lift to the Leningrad railway station. The offer was gladly accepted, and on the way to the Three Stations Square we had a talk.
Alena Leonova, Russian national team
leader in ladies single skating, wasn’t successful at three events in
succession. First she finished 6th at the ISU Grand Prix Final, then
took only silver at Nationals and finally placed 7th at Europeans. The
skater and her coach Alla Piatova told infox.ru about their goals at
the Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Today,
January 23, was the last day of the European Figure Skating
Championships held in Tallinn, Estonia. The competitions concluded with
ladies’ free skating. The reigning world junior champion and Russian
Nationals silver medalist Alena Leonova didn’t justify the hopes set on
her and went down from 5th place after short program to 7th overall. On
seeing her score she ran past reporters, not trying to hide her tears.
It was left to her coach Alla Piatova to answer All Sport news agency
correspondent’s questions.
