World Championships 2010, Alena’s last event this season, concluded last week in Torino. Physical and emotional fatigue after Olympics, together with a severe cold, which hindered Alena from getting ready for the tournament in a proper way, didn’t let her skate faultlessly and get a high place. Nonetheless, in both programs she did the best she was able to do at that moment, fighting for each element.
In the short program Alena skated last. After making a mistake in the very beginning (a fall on the first jump of the combination) she didn’t lose her head and did the combination as the second jump element. Her non-jump elements were given high levels, but judges put Alena only to the 14th place, which meant that the next day she had to skate in the second group. Having nothing to lose, Alena skated her Chicago routine for the audience and all her fans. And if the total element score had something to do with Alena’s skating, the very low program component score, evidently, had been predestined by the number of the group. As a result, Alena placed 13th overall.
The season is over, but before summing up its results and starting getting ready for the next one, Alena must take a good rest. Her recreation started with a most pleasant thing. For the first time in her life she took part in a professional ice show, Kings of Ice, first in St. Petersburg and on the next day in Moscow. Alena was delighted to skate together with the Kings – Lambiel, Joubert, Weir and Plushenko – and we hope she will please us with her ice show performances again and again in days to come.
Now Alena is going to have a few days-off and then she will return to the ice again. She has to keep herself in shape, because full soon a most interesting, important and at the same time difficult work, i.e. choreographing new programs, is going to begin. The new SP will be worked on in April in Switzerland, and the new LP in May in St. Petersburg.
Follow the updates at our site. Photos of the show and this season’s competitions, as well as music, and, very likely, a new blog entry will be posted soon ;)
